Yellowstone National Park, July 2006
It was mating season for the bison in Yellowstone National Park, so all of the park’s bison congregated in Hayden Valley while the males challenged one another for the privilege of selecting a mate. Once a male has established himself, he chooses a female bison and then follows her closely, waiting until she is ready. We watched this pair for a while and this male stayed right behind her the whole time. He had his prize and he wasn’t going to lose it!
