Hance Rapids from Lipan Point: Grand Canyon National Park, September 2009 Don’t be fooled. While Hance Rapids looks unimpressive from this vantage point on the South Rim, it is one of the Colorado River’s most treacherous rapids. It is a mile long and has a 30 foot drop in the space of a half mile.
